How to Add Mosquito Control Programs to an Existing Lawn Care or Pest Control Business

Mosquito control is one of the highest-margin add-on services available to lawn care and pest control companies with an existing recurring customer base. The customer acquisition cost is essentially zero — the customer already trusts you, already has an active account, and is already accustomed to having your technicians on their property. Converting 15 to 25 percent of a 300-account lawn care base to a seasonal mosquito program at $75 to $100 per treatment generates $60,000 to $105,000 in additional annual revenue without a single new customer acquisition. The operational challenge is scheduling the mosquito program independently from the base service without creating routing conflicts or compliance log confusion.

Mosquito as a Separate Program, Same Customer Account

A lawn care customer who adds mosquito service has two programs on their account: a recurring fertilizer or weed control schedule and a seasonal mosquito program at 21-day intervals. These programs run on completely different cadences and need to be tracked and scheduled independently. The fertilizer Round 4 due date has no relationship to the mosquito treatment due date. Mosquito barrier spray and lawn care chemical applications (fertilizer, herbicide) require separate compliance records even when performed at the same property on the same day. Different products, different EPA reg numbers, different target pests or use sites, different treatment areas. A single compliance log entry that lumps both applications together is inaccurate and may not satisfy either application's specific record requirements. The field logging form should support multiple separate log entries per visit — one for the lawn care application and one for the mosquito barrier spray.

Spring Enrollment Timing

The natural enrollment window for mosquito add-on programs is late winter through early spring — when customers are beginning to think about the upcoming season. For an existing lawn care or pest control company, this enrollment push can go to the entire existing customer base via SMS or email announcing the mosquito program availability. Customers who respond to the enrollment offer are added to the mosquito program in the system and scheduled for their first treatment at the appropriate spring timing for their region. First-treatment dates stagger across the enrollment period, which is better for production load than all 60 enrollees getting their first treatment in the same week.
